With 2024’s Radiate EP becoming one of the band’s biggest hits to date, This Bliss build on that success with their new Grave of Sound album.
Their drive to constantly seek out new ideas and new sounds prompts Grave of Sound to look as much to the music of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance periods as it does contemporary technology and concerns, marking a new and innovative direction for the band’s music.
Incorporating music of the past, current music technology, and aspects of psychology, belief, and philosophy into their music; a combination that can be clearly heard throughout the album. Dream pop and 80s synthpop fuse with classical and ambient soundscapes, adding depth and context to the contemplative lyrics. Sounding at once familiar and new, the album seeks to awaken the listener’s mind to fresh ideas and musical influences.
This Bliss is Boston-based wife-and-husband duo Jess Baggia and Nick Zampiello. They seek to woo the listener with a bright and sparkling fusion of adventurous electronic and pop music. Their sound is fuelled by studio technology, reflective lyrics and lilting vocals, all wrapped up in melody-driven songs laden with hooks.
Says Jess about the album, “Grave of Sound features a series of original compositions that fuse polyphonic choral samples with electronic instrumentation, creating rich three-part harmonies that are as cinematic as they are complex.”
Continues Jess, “We intentionally create music that doesn't fit neatly into a single genre. By incorporating traditional song forms and analogue instruments, our sound has a nostalgic quality. This is further enhanced by the classically inspired choral sampling featured in the new album.”
“At the same time, we love the modern elements of electronic music, and this record relies heavily on MIDI and sampling. The result is a blend of many genres we enjoy: electronic, pop, classical, and folk.”
