After May’s reSPRAY Vol. 1 and the cheeky Bandcamp-only release of reworked live favourite Sparks Called and They Want Their Ideas Back, Spray, rather logically, introduce reSPRAY Vol. 2 to the world.
Brother-and-sister duo Jenny and Ricardo have acquired a dedicated following over the years for their particular take on indie/disco/pop under the Spray banner. Perky, personal, and sometimes subversive and quietly political, Spray make music that’ll make you laugh, cry, and dance – often at the same time!
Their musical DNA can be traced all the way back to The Cuban Boys, who are still a going concern on the live circuit, with plenty of musical japes along the way.
Jenny and Ricardo topped the John Peel Festive 50 Charts twice, annoyed all the right people with some Eurovision misadventures, and engaged in a series of collaborations designed to disrupt the UK singles charts on a regular basis.
Whether it’s working with others or on their own music, they always seek to tweak the nose of conventional pop with lyrics that deflate its pomposity and pretences. No one is spared the Spray treatment!
As with reSPRAY Vol. 1, the band’s love/hate relationship with pop music is at the heart of this second instalment of remixes, remakes, and deep cuts. But they also return to these tracks from the vaults because, despite all this, they still want to make the perfect pop song.
Along with new versions of So Close, I'm Beginning to Think That People Don't Like Me, and Fake Controversy Coincidentally Moves Product, the four-song EP also features the classical-meets-pop extravaganza that is I Am Gothic (Synthetik FM's Toccata Fugue Mix: 2009 Version).
The reSPRAY Vol. 2 EP serves as another reminder of the range and size of the Spray back catalogue, as well as a bite-sized introduction to the band’s music for those unfamiliar with their extensive repertoire.
